David Ortiz Had to Have Taken Steroids

David Ortiz is a big man. He stands 6’4″ and weighs 230. Some of his weight looks like it is in his stomach but this guy has gigantic forearms and biceps. He was listed as 6’4″ and 230 while on the Twins but no one knows for sure what his weight is now because a lot of athletes don’t reveal their real height and weight.

Before the Red Sox won championships, my father would always tell me that the Yankees dropped the ball on David Ortiz. My father, who is THE Yankee fan would shake his head in disgust and wished the Yankees would of signed Ortiz especially since he was a Yankee killer.

When the Red Sox started winning world series, it became widely accepted that the Yankees missed out on signing David Ortiz.

It seemed that every time up in a big spot against the Yankees, he would hit a home run.

He was so clutch against the Yankees that my whole family disliked him. Every time up, some one in my family would say, “Oh no, looks who’s up. Please don’t pitch to him.”

David Ortiz started his career with the Minnesota Twins and would be released nine days before Christmas in 2002. The Red Sox signed him a month later as a free agent but he wasn’t in high demand.

How could he be in high demand? The most home runs he hit with the Twins were 20 so he was more a fringe player that the Red Sox acquired. He was going to back up Jeremy Giambi as the DH/First Baseman.

He started his career at the age of 21 with the Twins and would hit, 1, 0, 9, 10, 18 and 20 in consecutive years. His only full seasons were at the age of 24 and 26 were he would hit 10 and 20 home runs respectively.

This is not a power hitter you want on your ball club especially since most power hitters in 2002 were hitting 57, 52, 49 and 46 home runs.

Then, all of a sudden, after playing his first year with the Red Sox in 2003, he hits 31 home runs. That’s a big jump from 20 in the previous year. Then in 2004 he hits 41 home runs. 47 in 2005 and 54 in 2006.

What was the reason for David Ortiz not having many home runs on the Twins and then all of a sudden hitting a lot of bombs on the Red Sox?

Was he a late bloomer like Red Sox fans would make you believe? Did he not train properly when on the Twins? Was he at the age where he’s supposed to turn into a great hitter?

Umm, steroids? Hello?

If you look at the beggining of his career from when he was with the Twins and then when he went to the Red Sox, you could see the big difference in size and muscle mass.

Even if you are a Red Sox fan, you have to admit, his career looks suspicious from a statistic point of view at the very least. After all, this is the steroid era.

I knew Red Sox fans would ask for some proof so here it is…

  1. Cam Martin, look at the picture I just posted. Thank you very much. Have a nice day now.

  2. Bostowed. The Mitchell report was a witch hunt against the Yankees. I posted this just before Cam did but it got erased when I was deleting spam.

  3. Wow, great proof. You must be a journalist.

  4. “That’s not a picture of David Ortiz, that’s a picture of David Arias. Stupid Yankees fans always think they are one step ahead but you’re not buddy. Get your facts right.”

–Cam Martin(or any Yankees haters that go on Yankees sites to talk crap OR simply….LOOOOZAS)

  5. David Ortiz changed his name from Arias to Ortiz.

  6. Great job by the administration on picking up the sarcasm. LOL, I KNOW that he changed his name… I was just saying that, “That’s not a picture of David Ortiz, that’s a picture of David Arias. Stupid Yankees fans always think they are one step ahead but you’re not buddy. Get your facts right.” is what a Redsox fan’s rebuttal would be to your proof of pictures since most of them make no sense. However I’ve met a few sox fans that are decent human beings.

    INNOCENT, until proven guilty!

  8. 11You have an argument there, now get the NY press to investigate OTHER teams instead of jumping all over their local ones and we might see some action taking. I believe the Mitchell report is tainted because exactly ZERO RedSox players have been linked to it. Not a one. How is that possible? Oh yeah because Mitchell has ties to the RedSox. There is corruption there that needs to be brought to light.

Another argument could also be that Ortiz was hitting better because he was protected by Manny Rameriz. If Big Papi is healthy all season and is protected by Youkillis instead of Manny, we’ll see a difference in his numbers. Though Im sure Boston will blame it on his weak wrist.

  9. Yankee Stadium has been ground zero for steroid abuse. The Mitchell Report was a witch hunt against the Yankees…bah!!! That’s laughable.

“If you look at the beggining of his career from when he was with the Twins and then when he went to the Red Sox, you could see the big difference in size and muscle mass.”

    Really? Where are your pictures?

    Enjoy the season, Sox haters.

  10. I re posted what Cam Martin and Bestowed said because it comes in my email. It gets very frustrating when word press keeps deleting comments.

  13. I did not know that Ortiz said that he didn’t know if he took steroids or not, Cruz.

  14. Ortiz doesn’t look abnormally large, he’s just a big boy

  15. He’s big but was he always “this” big?

  16. The capacity of Red Sox fans for self-delusion is no surprise. Ortiz obviously was on ‘roids, just as any phony power hitter of the 2000s was whose numbers precipitously dropped after MLB finally became somewhat serious about testing for them. Coincidence? Yeah right. You really have to be a gullible fool to think these events are uncorrelated.

  17. It’s unbelievable to me how much he stinks now compared to what he used to be when he most likely took roids. Good point.

  18. I guess last year’s wrist injury doesn’t add into this at all, eh?

  19. What is he doing this year? Nothing. Thank you.

  20. I’m sorry, are roids necessary for clutch hits in big games? It never seemed to help a-fraud, giambi, or gary the chef. stop cyring over spilt milk yankees babies.

  21. Big Papi is so washed up, he’s not even starting anymore. Did they bench him for life yet?

  22. Obviously as players age, they tend to gain weight. Honestly, it doesn’t really look as though Ortiz has used roids to bulk up. It looks a lot more like food. One of the reasons he improved when going to the Red Sox was the training and coaches. They noticed he lacked in certain areas with his batting but knew he had the potential. When he went to the Red Sox, no one even knew he would be a 30, 40, 50 homer guy. Most were expecting 15-25 at most. I’m not going to sit here and say that he hasn’t taken roids because if I can remember correctly, wasn’t it immediately before the season when he stated that steroid users should be banned for a year? Now look at him. He can’t hit much of anything. He’s slow on 90 mph fastballs. While the bat speed really has nothing to do with steroids, I still won’t say he hasn’t taken them. Then again, who hasn’t taken them? Roger Clemens, Barry Bonds, Mark McGwire, Sammy Sosa, Ken Caminiti, Rafael Palmeiro, Luis Gonzales, Alex Rodriguez.. All of them have taken steroids I believe. The stat that I look at the most is stolen bases and attempts. Once that drops off a ton, you can easily tell the body has dramatically changed. Even if you gain weight over time, you’re going to get used to it and you may lose speed, but you’re not going to all of a sudden stop stealing bases. Just something to think about.

  23. I’ll respond to this more later.
