How it feels not to make the playoffs

First, let me congratulate the Rays and Red Sox for making the playoffs.

Let me tell you how I feel that the Yankees are not making the playoffs…. terrible. I’m spoiled. I’m used to going to the playoffs every year and discussing who should start what game and which position player should be where etc. I’m going to miss watching Jeter making that jump throw from short to get another Red Sox out and I’m going to miss watching Mariano slaying the opponent in the 9th inning. How great it would of been to watch Joba Chamberlain pitch a shut out 8th to give way to the great Mo for the save in the 9th. I’m going to miss that this October.

I won’t miss A-Rod making another big out in a key situation and I won’t miss watching Robinson Cano making another lazy play in the field or Jason Giambi hitting the ball right into the shift. When it comes to A-Rod, the thing with him coming up short in a big spot is something us Yankee fans are going to have to deal with because he isn’t going anywhere. I’d like to see the Yankees trade Cano and not resign Giambi.

What I would of liked to see was how certain players would of performed in the post season. It would of been interesting to see how Phil Coke would of performed in pressure situations as well as Alfredo Aceves. Since they performed well in the regular season you know that Girardi would of used them in the post season. It would of been good to see David Robertson, Chris Britton, Edwar Ramirez, Jose Veras and Andrew Backman get playoff experience. Looking at the players I just mentioned, I can’t believe how young the Yankee bull pen is. They should only get better and help the Yankees for years.

The bottom line is this. The Yankees are finishing strong and with key free agent acquisitions next year along with a young pitching staff and guys in the line up like Gardner who could steal bases, the future is looking very bright.

  1. I don’t think it’s that big a deal the Yankees missed the playoffs. They’re still a decent team. No reason to trade Cano, but I’d like to see Giambi go.

Andrew B(R)ackman wouldn’t be getting playoff time anyways and it’s time to understand that Chris Britton is not a major league pitcher. He had one season, but has been throwing a fastball in the upper 80′s instead of the mid-90′s like he did that one year.

  2. I had a feeling that Andrew Backman wouldn’t be seeing any playoffs but I wanted to mention him anyway. You have a real nice website.

  3. I have been following your site since the beginning of the year for the minor league stats and let me first off tell you guys what a great job you have done this year. I like you am very saddened we are not in I wanted to see the Yanks and Sox play 3 in Fenway for the last playoff spot but thats only a dream I guess. I am a huge fan of cano he does get lazy in the field but when he tries there is no other better fielding second basemen in the entire league. I dont want to trade him, He is going to be great someday and hes going to hit above 320 next year i feel it, and he can become a power hitter mixed with average hitting kind of like a better average hitting A-Rod with a little less power. I am going to miss the postseason I like you am a spoiled person and don’t understand not being in the playoffs but i know it used to kill me when we got knocked out and had to watch the playoffs go on. Getting knocked out and watching the Sox celebrate is exactly why i turn off espn and watch something not related to sports I couldn’t bear it, We will be back next year no question and we will win our devision. I know there is always next year but i don’t want to wait. I am looking forward to NBA but they don’t have every Lakers game on so its not the same and they dont give me something to look forward to everyday.

I absolutely love the young depth we got in the bullpen i think Robertson is a stud, as far as Brackman he is supposed to be good and i can’t wait to see him get in there. Britton hasn’t done anything although he has potential to be a decent set up man. Edwar has one of the best change ups in the game and this guy is great. My one big problem pitcher is veras. You can never understand him. First half of the year incredible best pitcher in the bullpen other than Mo and Edwar and then the second half he has been giving up runs left and right and i hate to see another farnsworth.

Thank You for the great job you have done this year and i Can’t wait to have your updates and scores next year. You guys have done great and i even have you bookmarked lol but you have done great. The Yankees well make it next year dont worry we will have CC or Sheets and another guy like Burnett, im thinking Texeira at first and I think a new RF will be coming but who does know until the time comes. One things for sure we are not gonna make it this year but I can see championship next year.

  4. Great post Matt. You’re right. Cano reminds me of A-Rod but with less power. A-Rod is huge though. He has one huge body. When I see him on tv, he reminds me of my father because my father is big. Veras will be ok. He’s done better lately and don’t forget that he is young. A lot of fans want Burnett but I’m not sure he’ll be the answer because we have Phil Hughes who is pitching better plus Joba in the rotation next year. There will be a lot of arms for the Yankees. Thanks for the compliments.
