The Bobby Abreu show

Yankees win 9 – 2

That was a great game by Bobby Abreu. 6 rbi’s and 2 home runs? That’s impressive. He’s getting really close to 100 rbi’s. It seems to me that the players that are trying to reach certain milestones are playing better than usual with under 2 weeks to go. I would have liked to see these players play with that type of urgency all year. That was win number 18 for Mussina. Who thought that Mussina would lead the Yankees in wins this year? I thought Mussina was washed up when the season first started and even Hank took a shot at Mussina. You could never take away heart, something I wish Ian Kennedy had.

The Yankees brought up Humberto Sanchez and he looked really good pitching a scoreless inning. I wanted to see him pitch 2 innings but I’ll settle for 1 inning. Francisco Cervelli was also called up and didn’t get an at bat but it was good to see him in pinstripes. To me, the Yankees don’t have to worry about who’s going to catch for them in the future because Cervelli could get the job done. I really like the fact that Cervelli is only 22 years old. Before he was injured, he was considered a big time prospect but he’ll have some competition from Austin Romine and Jesus Montero even though those players are very young and Montero might not be a catcher if he reaches the majors. The Yankees need to play Cervelli more before the season ends. It will be great for experience.

The Yankees romped all over Javier Vazquez and it didn’t surprise me because he was never able to pitch at Yankee stadium. He’s not a player that could play in the big market of New York because he can’t handle the New York pressure. The Yankees took 3 of 4 from Chicago and won 5 out of their last six and I’m feeling pretty good about that. The Yankees need to continue to look at their younger players while trying to win.

Because of his time injured this year, I would like to see Cervelli sent to the AFL or HWL to make up for the lost development.

  2. That’s a great idea Junkie. I’m sure the Yankees will have him do that.
