Hughes gets mental block but Yankees win
Yankees win 5-1
Phil Hughes had a high pitch count after 4 innings, 89 pitches to be exact and I’m sure that’s why Girardi didn’t let Hughes go out for the 5th. Phil Coke came in the game and pitches 2 scoreless innings for the win.(He faced Griffey in the 7th.) Some might think that Phil Coke might be a better overall prospect than Phil Hughes because of how well he is doing this season. You can’t view it like that. Every person is different and every person has different flaws in baseball and in every day life. Phil Hughes has talent but in my opinion his problem is that he gets rattled easy and this makes for a high pitch count. Coke doesn’t get rattled and this is just one reason why I feel he has been successful in his short stint with the Yankees. To me, Coke is very cool, calm and collected when on the mound. Once some one gets on base when Hughes is pitching, he starts getting nervous and it looks like he is sweating.
The difference between the two is personality. Coke gets aggressive when behind in the count and Phil Hughes doesn’t. Hughes has an awesome cutter and breaking ball. This is just one reason I feel that all Phil Hughes has to do is get past his mental block and turn his negative thinking into positive thinking and he’ll be a good to great pitcher in the major leagues. I like Phil Hughes’ physical talent but I think it’s all mental with him.
It feels great to watch the Yankees take 2 of 3 from Tampa and 2 from the White Sox with one more game to go against the Sox.
Talk about being lucky. What are the odds of a fan in the outfield catching a home run ball 2 nights in a row? Some fans can’t catch one ball, a foul ball even, and if they do, they’ll never catch a ball again. This kid caught two “home run” balls “two” nights in a row.
That Eli Manning commercial where the small car salesman chest bumps Eli is funny. I enjoy watching it every time it goes on. Of course the guy doesn’t want a chest bump back because Eli is twice his size.

All Coke has done is get big league hitters out! When promoted to AAA he was put in the pen because of a high innings count from starting at AA. I’d say he’s a long shot for the 2009 NYY rotation!

Great point. I haven’t viewed his pitch count but you have. Great job on that.
