Class A Short-Season

The Staten Island Yankees blew the doors off the State College Spikes and won by a score of 13-4. Starting for Staten Island was Casey Erickson and he gave up 1 run on 4 hits along with 6 strikeouts in 5 innings of work for the win. His era is 2.88. Angel Mundo pitched 2 scoreless innings and Francis Moreta pitched the 8th and 9th innings giving up 2 earned runs on 5 hits for the save. The hitting stars of the game for the DSL Yankees1 worth mentioning were second baseman Luis Parache who went 1 for 4 with 1 run scored and 1 rbi and DH Luilly Baez who went 2 for 4 with 1 rbi.

The DSL Yankees2 won what seemed to be a never ending game over the DSL Diamondbacks by a score of 3-2 in 16 innings. Starting for the DSL Yankees2 was Jose Quintana and he gave up 1 run on 1 hit in 5 innings of work for the no decision but the run was unearned because of a fielding error by third baseman Juan Rijo. He also had 7 strikeouts. His era is 1.19. Replacing Quintana to start the 6th inning was Juan Heredia and he gave up 1 earned run on 3 hits in 3 innings. Following Heredia to start the 9th inning was Justo Arias and he got credit for pitching 3 perfect innings but he let in Heredia’s base runner and that’s why he got a blown save. He threw a wild pitch. Alan Atacho came in for Arias to start the 12th inning and pitched 2.2 scoreless innings. Alejandro Martinez then replaced Atacho and pitched 2.1 scoreless innings giving up 1 hit for the win.

The hitting star of the game for the DSL Yankees2 worth mentioning was third baseman Juan Rijo who went 2 for 6 with 1 rbi. He drove in pinch runner Julio Rojas for the winning score on a sacrifice fly.
