X Marks The Spot, Yankees win 14-9
The New York Yankees beat one of the best pitchers in baseball Sunday and won a high scoring game over the Los Angeles Angels by a score of 14-9. Starting for the Yankees was Darrell Rasner and he did not pitch well giving up 5 earned runs on 7 hits in 4 innings of work for the no decision. Replacing Rasner was Dan Giese and he kept the Yankees in the game by pitching 3 scoreless innings giving up 1 hit along with 3 strikeouts. Following Giese was Edwar Ramirez and he gave up 4 earned runs on 2 hits in the 8th inning for the blown save and the win. Jose Veras pitched a scoreless 9th inning giving up 1 hit.
The hitting stars of the game for the Yankees worth mentioning were right-fielder Bobby Abreu, left-fielder Xavier Nady, catcher Ivan Rodriguez and pinch runner Justin Christian. Abreu went 3 for 4 with 3 runs scored and 1 rbi. Nady had a HUGE day going 4 for 5 with 1 run scored and 6 rbi’s along with a home run. I-Rod went 2 for 3 with 1 run scored and 1 rbi along with a home run and Christian turned the game and momentum around by stealing third base and then scoring home after a throwing error by catcher Jeff Mathis. Christian also got a hit in the game and he went 1 for 1 with 1 run scored.

That was the best game I’ve seen this year.

I thought the Yankees were certain to lose this game. I was a bit surprised at all the errors the Angels made.

That was one heck of a win bro. This could be the game that the Yankees look back and say this was the game.

Rick you are right this could be the game that propels them.

You don’t know how happy this win makes me. It’s going to make Monday that much easier.

Hey, Sean …
Big two wins [8-2] and [14-9] for the split of the four game series vs. the Angels. What looked like a disaster, after the Yankees lost the first two games, turned out to be a very successful weekend for the Yanks. Now onto a very tough road trip. With Joba starting the first game against Texas, the Yankees should have a good game, and continue on their winning streak … Go Yankees !!!

Enormous win, Sean. Nice getting to chat with you over at The Squad during the win. Nady is indeed a steal, as is Marte. I like the way Nady fits with the team–he hustles, he plays defense, he takes the ball the other way. The bottom half of the lineup looks a heck of a lot stronger with him there than before. Good to see Pudge hot with the bat, too. His homer and single were smoked.
Abreu atoned nicely for his base-running gaffe, which looked like it might cost the Yanks the game yesterday. Honestly, my daughter and her teammates run the bases in softball better than Abreu–who normally is very good on the base paths–showed yesterday.
I’m shooting for an in-game discussion tomorrow, usually termed the Heartland Digital Living Room, or HDLR for those in the know. Feel free to come by, then or anytime.
