The Scranton/Wilkes Barre Yankees lost to the Pawtucket Red Sox by a score of 7-3. Funny how some things never change. Starting for Scranton was Billy Traber and he pitched 2 scoreless innings giving up 1 hit for the no decision. Replacing Traber to start the 3rd inning was Steven Jackson and he pitched 2 scoreless innings giving up 2 hits. Following Jackson to start the 5th inning was Mark Melancon and he gave up 1 earned run on 1 hit in 2 innings. Phil Coke started the 7th inning and gave up 3 earned runs on 3 hits in 1.1 innings for the loss. Scott Strickland pitched .2 of an inning and gave up 3 earned runs on 2 hits for the blown save. Strickland let in Coke’s runners and that’s why he got the blown save.

The hitting stars of the game for Scranton worth mentioning were first baseman Juan Miranda who went 1 for 3 with 1 run scored and 1 rbi along with a home run and right-fielder Ben Broussard who went 1 for 3 with 1 run scored and 2 rbi’s along with a home run.

Game 1

The Trenton Thunder won easily over the Portland SeaDog by a score of 7-3 in the first game of their double header. Starting for the Thunder was Michael Gardner and he pitched 3 scoreless innings giving up 1 hit for the no decision. Replacing Gardner to start the 4rth inning was Anthony Claggett and he gave up 2 earned runs on 4 hits in 3 innings for the win. Wilkins Arias pitched the 7th inning and gave up 1 earned run on 2 hits. The hitting stars of the game for the Thunder worth mentioning were second baseman Reegie Corona, center fielder Austin Jackson and left-fielder Colin Curtis. Corona went 1 for 2 with 2 runs scored and 1 rbi along with 2 walks. Jackson went 2 for 3 with 1 run scored and 2 rbi’s and Curtis went 1 for 3 with 1 run scored and 1 rbi.

The Trenton Thunder’s second game was postponed because of rain.

The Tampa Yankees won big over the Dunedin Blue Jays by a score of 13-7. Starting for Tampa was Alan Horne and he did not pitch well giving up 6 earned runs on 6 hits in 2.1 innings of work for the no decision. Replacing Horne was Edgar Soto and he gave up 1 earned run on 3 hits in 2.2 innings of work for the win. Following Soto to start the 6th inning was Philip Bartleski and he pitched 2 scoreless innings giving up 1 hit along with 3 strikeouts. His era is 1.22. Josh Schmidt pitched 2 perfect innings.

The hitting stars of the game for Tampa worth mentioning were second baseman Luis Nunez, short stop Eduardo Nunez, first baseman Kevin Smith and center fielder Seth Fortenberry. L Nunez went 2 for 5 with 2 runs scored and 2 rbi’s. E Nunez went 3 for 5 with 3 runs scored and 2 rbi’s. Smith went 3 for 5 with 2 runs scored and 2 rbi’s and Fortenberry went 2 for 4 with 2 runs scored and 4 rbi’s along with a home run.

Class A

The Charleston RiverDogs won a close scoring game over the Greenville Drive by a score of 5-4. Starting for the RiverDogs was Carl Pavano and he gave up 1 earned run on 5 hits in 3 innings of work for the no decision. Replacing Pavano to start the 4rth inning was Phil Hughes and he pitched 3.2 scoreless innings giving up 1 hit along with 5 strikeouts for the win. Following Hughes was Ryan Zink and he gave up 2 earned run on 2 hits in 1.1 innings. Jonathan Ortiz pitched the 9th inning and gave up 1 earned run on 2 hits for his 28th save. The hitting stars of the game for the RiverDogs worth mentioning were right-fielder Austin Krum, first baseman Brandon Laird and center fielder Abraham Almonte. Krum went 2 for 4 with 2 runs scored and 1 rbi along with a home run. Laird went 2 for 4 with 2 runs scored and 3 rbi’s along with 2 home runs and Almonte went 2 for 4 with 1 run scored and 1 rbi along with a home run.
