Down On The Farm Minor League Report 8/02/08 Pt 1
The Scranton/Wilkes Barre Yankees lost to the Pawtucket Red Sox by a score of 7-3. Funny how some things never change. Starting for Scranton was Billy Traber and he pitched 2 scoreless innings giving up 1 hit for the no decision. Replacing Traber to start the 3rd inning was Steven Jackson and he pitched 2 scoreless innings giving up 2 hits. Following Jackson to start the 5th inning was Mark Melancon and he gave up 1 earned run on 1 hit in 2 innings. Phil Coke started the 7th inning and gave up 3 earned runs on 3 hits in 1.1 innings for the loss. Scott Strickland pitched .2 of an inning and gave up 3 earned runs on 2 hits for the blown save. Strickland let in Coke’s runners and that’s why he got the blown save.
The hitting stars of the game for Scranton worth mentioning were first baseman Juan Miranda who went 1 for 3 with 1 run scored and 1 rbi along with a home run and right-fielder Ben Broussard who went 1 for 3 with 1 run scored and 2 rbi’s along with a home run.

The Trenton Thunder won easily over the Portland SeaDog by a score of 7-3 in the first game of their double header. Starting for the Thunder was Michael Gardner and he pitched 3 scoreless innings giving up 1 hit for the no decision. Replacing Gardner to start the 4rth inning was Anthony Claggett and he gave up 2 earned runs on 4 hits in 3 innings for the win. The hitting stars of the game for the Thunder worth mentioning were second baseman Reegie Corona, center fielder Austin Jackson and left-fielder Colin Curtis.
