Down on the Farm Day 33 Minor Leagues 5/6/2008

Triple A

The Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Yankees beat the Charlotte Knights by a score of 4-0. Starting for Scranton was Ian Kennedy and he pitched a great game giving up no runs on 1 hit in 7.1 innings along with 8 strike outs for the win. Kennedy doesn’t really belong in Triple A, it’s all mental for him when he pitches for the big pro club. Replacing Kennedy was Heath Phillips and he pitched a scoreless 1.2 innings on 1 hit. The hitting stars of the game worth mentioning for Scranton were left-fielder Brett Gardner, center fielder Justin Christian and right fielder Matt Carson. Gardner went 1 for 4 with 1 run scored and 1 rbi. Christian went 1 for 4 with 1 rbi and Carson went 1 for 3 with 1 rbi.

Double A

The Trenton Thunder beat the Erie SeaWolves by a score of 4-0. Starting for the Trenton Thunder was Daniel McCutchen and he gave up 1 earned run on 4 hits in 7.1 innings of work for the win. Replacing McCutchen was J.B. Cox and he gave up 1 earned run on 1 hit in 1.2 innings. The hitting stars of the game for Trenton worth mentioning were catcher P.J. Pilittere, left-fielder Colin Curtis and third baseman Chris Malec. Pilittere went 1 for 3 with 1 rbi. Curtis went 2 for 4 with 2 runs scored and 1 rbi. Malec went 2 for 4 with 1 run scored and 2 rbi’s along with a big, hurt your feelings type of home, run, BAAAHMB!!!

The Tampa Yankees beat the Jupiter Hammerheads in 10 innings by a score of 5-4. Starting for Tampa was Michael Dunn and he gave up 4 earned runs on 5 hits in 6 innings of work for the no decision. He recorded 7 strikeouts. Replacing Dunn to start the 7th inning was Josue Selene and he gave up no runs on 1 hit in 1.2 innings of work. Following Selene was Philip Bartleski and he gave up no runs on no hits in 2 innings. Jose Valdez pitched the last out of the game for the win. He only faced 1 batter. The hitting stars of the game for Tampa were second baseman Damon Sublett, short stop Luis Nunez and catcher Kyle Anson. Sublett went 2 for 4 with 1 run scored and 1 rbi. Nunez went 2 for 4 with 2 rbi’s. Anson went 2 for 3 with 1 run and 1 rbi. Kyle Anson was the hero of the game by driving in Damon Sublett for the winning run in the bottom of the 10th.

Class A

The Charleston RiverDogs beat down the Hickory Crawdads by a score of 7-4. Starting for the RiverDogs was Lance Pendleton and he gave up no earned runs on 1 hit in 4.2 innings of work for the no decision. Replacing Pendleton was Craig Heyer and he gave up 3 runs on 4 hits in 2.1 innings but 2 of the runs were unearned because of a throwing error by third baseman Brandon Laird. Heyer got the win. Following Heyer was Chace Vacek and he gave up 1 earned run on 3 hits in .2 of an inning. Jonathan Ortiz pitched the 9th inning for his 10th save of the year and gave up no runs on 1 hit and his era for the year now stands at 1.93. The hitting stars of the game for the RiverDogs were center fielder Abraham Almonte, second baseman Justin Snyder and first baseman Wady Rufino. Almonte went 1 for 4 with 1 run scored and 3 rbi’s and went DEEEEP with a big, awesome, home, run, BOMB!! Snyder went 2 for 3 with 2 runs scored and Rufino went 1 for 3 with 1 run scored and 3 rbi’s along with a gigantic, humongous, a pitcher’s worst nightmare, home, run, MOOOOON shot!

  1. I checked last night and I thought that Tampa was playing at 7PM and not 11:00AM
