Triple A

Game 1

The Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Yankees beat the Durham Bulls by a score of 6-1 in the first game of their double header. Starting for Scranton was Steven White and he gave up 1 earned run on 2 hits in 6 innings of work along with 7 strikeouts for the win. Replacing White to start the 7th inning was Billy Traber and he pitched a perfect inning striking out 2. The hitting stars of the game worth mentioning for Scranton were DH Cody Ransom, shortstop Nick Green and catcher Chris Stewart. Ransom went 2 for 3 with 1 run scored. Green went 3 for 4 with 1 run scored and 1 rbi. Stewart went 1 for 2 with 2 rbi’s. Minor league baseball only plays 7 innings when they play double headers.

Game 2

The Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Yankees beat the Durham Bulls by a score of 4-3 in the second game of their double header. Starting for Scranton was Heath Phillips and he gave up no runs on 4 hits in 3 innings of work for the no decision. Replacing Phillips to start the 4rth inning was Steven Jackson and he gave up 2 earned runs on 4 hits in 2 innings. Following Jackson was Scott Strickland and he pitched a scoreless 6th inning giving up 1 hit. Scott Patterson pitched the 7th inning and blew the game because of a throwing error by catcher JD Closser but got the win when second baseman Bernie Castro bunted center-fielder Justin Christian home on a sacrifice for the winning score. Patterson gave up 1 unearned run in the last inning on 2 hits. The hitting stars of the game for Scranton worth mentioning were Cody Ransom and center-fielder Justin Christian. Ransom went 2 for 3 with 1 run scored and Christian went 1 for 2 with 1 run scored and 1 rbi.

Double A

The Trenton Thunder won a low scoring game over the Portland Sea Dogs by a score of 1-0. Starting for the Trenton Thunder was Phil Coke and he pitched a great game giving up no runs on 5 hits in 7 innings along with 11, strike, OUTS! for the win. Replacing Coke was Michael Gardner and he pitched the last 2 innings giving up no runs on 1 hit for his 4rth save of the season. The hitting stars of the game for Trenton were center-fielder Matt Carson and right-fielder Jose Tabata. Carson went 1 for 3 with 1 run scored and Tabata went 0 for 3 with 1 rbi.

The Tampa Yankees, DESTROY the Sarasota Reds by a score of 8-0. Starting for Tampa was Ryan Pope and he gave up no runs on 4 hits in 7 innings for the win. Wilkins Arias replaced Pope and he pitched a perfect 8th and 9th inning. The hitting stars of the game worth mentioning for Tampa were shortstop Eduardo Nunez, first baseman Kevin Smith and second baseman Luis Nunez. Eduardo Nunez went 3 for 4 with 1 run scored and 4, big, RRR, BEE, EYES!! Smith went 2 for 5 with 2 runs scored and 1 rbi. Luis Nunez went 1 for 3 with 2 runs scored. If you hit 4 rbi’s, you get the RRR, BEE, EYES!! treatment.

Class A

The Charleston RiverDogs got beat up by the Augusta GreenJackets by a score of 10-5. Starting for the RiverDogs was Noel Castillo and he gave up 4 earned runs on 4 hits in 4 innings for the loss. Replacing Castillo to start the 5th inning was Gabe Medina and he gave up 4 runs on 4 hits in 3 innings but 2 of the runs he gave up were unearned because of a fielding error by left-fielder Taylor Holiday and a fielding error by short stop Carmen Angelini. Ryan Zink followed Medina and gave up 2 earned runs on 2 hits in 1 inning. Jonathan Ortiz pitched a perfect 9th inning. The hitting stars of the game worth mentioning for the RiverDogs were first baseman Brian Baisley and left-fielder Taylor Holiday. Baisley went 2 for 4 with 2 runs scored with 1 rbi along with a home run. Holiday went 2 for 4 with 1 run scored and 2 rbi’s.
