Pettitte stops the Royals – Yankees win 6-1
Andy Pettitte pitched very well tonight giving up 1 earned run on 5 hits in 6.2 innings of work as the Yankees win over the Kansas City Royals by a score of 6-1. Pettitte was followed by Joba Chamberlain and Chamberlain slammed the door shut on the Royals giving up no earned runs on 2 hits with 2 strikeouts in 1.1 innings. Joba threw 24 pitches and 18 of them were for strikes. His era for the year stands at 0.00. The Sandman, Mariano Rivera came in the bottom of the 9th inning in a non save situation and made the Royals look silly. The Yankees’ offense woke up a little especially in the top of the 9th inning when A-Rod and Jorge Posada both hit solo home runs. Center-fielder Melky Cabrera had a great game going 2 for 5 with 1 run scored, an rbi and a home run, bomb. Rookie Alberto Gonzalez, who took Derek Jeter’s place, went 1 for 3. Boston, here we come.
