Should MLB believe the Yankees are done spending?

Remember the mantra of, we’re going to lower payroll and stick to a budget? The New York Yankees said that after they won the World Series.

I’m going by estimates here but the Yankees have 23 players committed for 198.1 million. They need a left-fielder and an arm in the bull pen.

If the Yankees want to be under the 200 million dollar payroll mark, it will have to be the bargain bin for a left-fielder. Do you really think that’s going to happen? Are we to really believe what the Yankees are saying?

Let me tell you what the Yankees might be thinking. It’s called the art of deception in their view. The Yankees and Brian Cashman are trying to give the rest of the league the impression that they are cutting payroll. It keeps the rest of MLB from figuring what moves they will and won’t make based on this mythical number.

“Oh, we don’t have to worry about signing this player for this much money because the Yankees are done with the big name free agents.” – the rest of the league.

There’s no such thing that a player or players are too expensive for the Yankees. The Yankees will add anyone they see will fit on their team. The Yankees just don’t want anyone to know that.

Brian Cashman is not going to tell the media that the Yankees have no budget because then he would have no leverage in negotiations.

I don’t think the rest of the league buys this view. I’m pretty sure every team knows not to put nothing past the Yankees when it comes to spending on players.

Who’s next for the Yankees? Bay or Holliday? The question to you is, do you really think the Yankees are going to go with an outfield of Nick Swisher, Curtis Granderson and Brett Gardner?
