Matt Holliday Scouting Report and if the Yankees will sign him

Matt Holliday is on a lot of Yankee fans’ Christmas list. Should the Yankees try to sign him? Should the Yankees trade Swisher to lower payroll in order to sign him? There are still some questions to be answered for the Yankees roster for 2010 because they aren’t finished yet even if they say they are or will be soon. We know the Yankees would like to add another pitcher. Matt Holliday’s scouting report…

Positives:
Is a big dude with power. Knows how to get around on right-handed pitching and won’t get into extended slumps. Hits very well in the clutch.

Flaws:
Doesn’t have a great strikeout-walk ratio.

Outlook:
Is capable of winning batting titles.

What confounded me was Matt Holliday’s splits between Oakland and St.Louis. In Oakland he batted .286 in 47 games. In St. Louis he batted .377 in 34 games. I’m talking about playing in the actual stadiums, not the away games.

According to ESPN, Busch Stadium(St. Louis) was one of the toughest places to hit in 2009 ranking 25th in runs scored per game.  Oakland wasn’t as tough because they ranked 19th in runs scored per game.

Holliday hit better in the tougher stadium which tells me he can hit anywhere.

If the Yankees sign Matt Holliday, would they try to trade Nick Swisher for another starting pitcher? Would Melky Cabrera or Nick Swisher be traded? Will the Yankees let Melky play left-field and bat ninth?

Pitching seems to be the focus for the Yankees now. They’ll probably let Holliday fall in their lap like they did with Teixeira but I’m sure they won’t be in to getting Holliday as they were with Tex.

The Yankees can always wait until next year and try to sign Crawford who’s a very dangerous hitter because of his ability to steal bases. If the Yankees ever get him, they’re winning the pennant for the next five years no matter what Boston does.

A lot of fans want an all star at every position no matter what the cost and that’s what happened to Yankee fans since Steinbrenner is the owner. If the Yankees want to lower payroll, Swisher’s contract for next year is nine million and that is a lot for the type of player he is. They could trade him and get some one like Holliday.
