Hideki Matsui will be a legend forever in my eyes

Hideki Matsui has signed with the Los Angeles Angels for half of the contract he had last year with the New York Yankees.

I will never forget what Matsui has done for the Yankees in the World Series and he will forever be, “Godzilla” in my eyes.

There is not another DH on the market that will match his overall numbers and not another free agent hitter that’s as clutch as him.

The Yankees will play the Angels in their home opener and it will be nice to see him get his ring. He’s one of the five greatest Yankees of the post 2001 era in my view.

I’m trying to trust the Yankees’ organization but I keep having the feeling that not signing him is a bad move. I have a feeling that the Yankees will have a harder time scoring runs in the post season without him.

The Yankees are not going after Jason Bay and I read at the NY Daily News that if the Yankees do decide to go over the 200 million pay roll mark, they would go after Matt Holliday.

That would leave Johnny Damon but he wants too many years.

The Yankees aren’t playing the game with other teams this year in the off season. They’re coming right out and saying that we don’t want this guy or that guy.  I don’t think it matters because there’s only so high you can drive up the price for the Red Sox.

I feel the weakest part of this Yankees team is not having a Left-fielder and a DH. I also believe the Yankees need another starting pitcher.

Some fans might think that the Yankees will trade Jesus Montero for a starting pitcher but I don’t see that happening. The Yankees didn’t trade any of their best prospects for Santana or Roy Halladay so I don’t see them doing it now.

If you look at the post below however, you’ll see that baseball america ranks four catchers in the top 10 Yankee prospects. I don’t see why Montero would be untouchable. He’s not even the greatest defensive catcher either.

What scares me is the Red Sox. They added John Lackey and you can say they have a better two and three pitcher than our two and three. We have C.C. Sabathia but I feel that he’s the only one you can count on. Pettitte is getting older and Burnett is very inconsistent. Will the Yankees’ pitching be as brilliant as it was in 2010? Most likely not and not as lucky either.

Anyway, if I’m at Yankee stadium of their home opener, you can bet I’m giving Hideki Matsui a standing ovation.

  1. matsui… a yankee forever.

  2. Very true.

  3. Fear not. Nick Johnson is now (apparently) a Yankee again.

  4. Thanks for the update. I went and googled Nick Johnson and it said he wasn’t a Yankee, “yet.” Maybe they’re using him as a ploy to re-sign Johnny Damon at a cheaper price.
