Yankees won but I’m still worried – Should I be?
The Yankees just won the World Series and I’m very happy. I’m enjoying the off season thus far. It’s a nice feeling to know that your team are the world champs.
Still, should I be worried about next year already? Should I let the recent world series title sink in and enjoy more of it?
I guess I should but I’m a worry wort.
I’m worried that the Yankees won’t have enough starting pitching next year. C.C. Sabathia and Andy Pettitte were the only reliable starters in the playoffs with A.J. Burnett showing up every once in a while.
Andy Pettitte will be another year older. He’ll turn 38 during the year. Will he hold up? Will he be as successful? What if he retires? The Yankees would only then have CC as the only reliable pitcher in the playoffs.
Will C.C. be able to pitch as many innings this upcoming season? Will he break down after pitching so many innings these past four years?
What about A.J. Burnett? He wasn’t the greatest in the playoffs. He’ll get the Yankees to the playoffs but he scares me because you never know which pitcher is going to show up.
Then you have Phil Hughes and Joba Chamberlain. What if the Yankees make both of them starters and they fail big time? Then what? They were pretty successful in the bull pen and I wouldn’t mind seeing both of them back there.
What about Mariano? How long is he going to be great? He’ll be 40 tomorrow.
Then I get worried about Johnny Damon and Hideki Matsui. Damon was awesome in the world series as was mvp Hideki Matsui. Hideki was super clutch and I saw why he was such a huge star in Japan. If the Yankees don’t bring either back, will they have some one hit in the clutch as good as they did in the playoffs in 2010?
Gardner and Melky aren’t as good as those guys. Sure, if the Yankees bring in Holiday, that would be great but would he be a clutch hitter?
If the Yankees go after Roy Halladay, they’ll probably have to give up Austin Jackson, Joba Chamberlain and Phil Hughes. That’s too much. Joba and Phil Hughes were a big part of the Yankees’ bull pen especially Phil Hughes during the regular season.
Maybe I’m just worrying to much because every team in baseball have holes on their team. It’s hard to win back to back titles because every thing has to work out right.
Everything went the Yankees’ way in 2009 especially in the playoffs with the clutch hitting, the calls going their way and destiny. Every one on the team got along and liked each other which counted for a lot.
Next year? In 2010? Will they still like each other? Will they be as good “and” lucky?
