Hughes and Joba for Halladay: I don’t like it

According to Nick Cafardo of the Boston Globe, the Yankees would be willing to part ways with Phil Hughes and Joba Chamberlain for Roy Halladay…

The Yankees could easily get into the Roy Halladay hunt if they’re willing to part with Phil Hughes or Joba Chamberlain, which they apparently are. The one player they’d love to hold on to is Austin Jackson, their future center fielder who could keep their outfield costs low.

I don’t know how guys know this especially when they work for a Boston Red Sox paper but if it’s true, it’s not the greatest rumor I’ve heard.

So they want to keep Austin Jackson. Maybe they’re saying they want to keep Austin Jackson to boost up his trade value. He’s not a big home run threat like they thought he’d be.

I don’t like idea of trading two young players in Joba and Hughes for a player who will be 33 during the year in 2010.

I’d rather the New York Yankees try to trade for Felix Hernandez of the Seattle Mariners. He’ll most likely out pitch Roy Halladay for the rest of his career and he’s a lot younger.

Felix will be 23 for most of the season next year. He was 19-5 with a 2.49 ERA in the American League. He also had 217 strike outs. If the Yankees ever get him, it would be over for the rest of the league for quite some time.

He would also be a lot cheaper since he’s under contract for 2010 and 2011.

To get Felix Hernandez, the Yankees would have to give up more than just Joba Chamberlain and Phil Hughes. They would probably have to give up Jose Montero as well. The thing with Montero is that he’s not the best defensive catcher and the Yankees have Austine Romine who the Yankees like as a future catcher.
