Derek Jeter shouldn’t have to wait for contract extension
The New York Yankees’ organization has an unbreakable rule that says no early deals or extensions for anyone. That makes no sense because the Yankees spend billions of dollars on player salaries. What would an early contract extension do to them?
Derek Jeter dominated in the playoffs with a .407 batting average and had the best defensive year of his career. He’s Mr. Yankee. He’s every thing the organization hopes to have in a player. He’s respectful, he’s polite and he does every thing they ask of him.
I say forget your rule. That’s a George Steinbrenner rule and George isn’t in charge anymore. You can’t keep doing things George’s way because his ways weren’t always the right way.
Give Derek Jeter a three year deal worth 20 million a year and let him get 3,000 hits in a Yankee uniform.
