My take on Ronan Tynan’s Jewish comments

Ronan Tynan is an Irish tenor who works for the New York Yankees and sings God Bless America at Yankee stadium during Yankee games in the seventh inning. He made an anti-Semitic remark to a Jewish doctor who was looking at an apartment in his building on Manhattan’s East Side.

You can’t make racist remarks about Jews especially in New York where I believe there is the highest concentration of Jews in the world. You don’t make racist remarks period.

Was he wrong? Yes. Ronan Tynan was wrong. Should he sing at the stadium anymore? No, not if there are Jewish people in the stands.

It seems to me though, that every time some one says something anti-semitic, the media jumps all over the person. There “seems” to be a double standard because you never hear the media get on the case of people who are racist against Arabs or white people who aren’t Jewish.

I could be wrong about that because I don’t go around researching what people say about Jews, Arabs and Whites.

I like Jews. I’m not going to get into the, “look at me, I have Jewish friends” but my friend Greg who’s doing the radio show with me is Jewish. He’s one of the nicest people I’ve ever met. I stayed in a cabin with him when our facility went on a cruise. I have no problem being around him and no problem being around a Jewish person.

I have no problem being around anyone.

The problem I have is with the government of Israel who commits war crimes against the people of Gaza and puts pressure on the United States to start a war with Iran over nuclear weapons when they have nuclear weapons themselves. They keep building illegal settlements in Gaza and they have a big fence that separates Israel from the Palestinians and they block food and water from getting to the Palestinians. To me, that is a disgrace.

Our media never says anything about it. The reason why so many Muslims hate us is because of this double standards our media has set. Most Americans don’t know what goes on in the Gaza strip. That is because the MSM(main stream media) doesn’t tell you about it.

  1. It looks like he won’t be singing tonight.

  2. Brutal Truth Says:

Ronan’s explanation was that he was referring to the last “scary” (presumably disagreeable) women whom he had just toured his apartment with prior to showing it to the complainer.

If that’s all there was to it then Ronan’s guilty of choosing his words clumsily by using an inappropriate label to describe some unpleasant visitors he had just met. To take that as anti-Semitic instead of clumsy is just stupid and somewhat pedantically bullyish of the doctor.

Irish folks have had their “holocausts” too, especially during the 19 century losing millions of native Irish to horrible deaths caused by “Great” Britain literally stealing the food of the native Irish’s farms or tables so to speak for and using the same for export. It was no less of a crime than Germany’s and righteous Jewish folks know that if there is one group on this earth that empathizes with the plights of Jewish history … its Irish folks.

Ronan has apologized for his clumsy choice of words and the doctor should apologize too for being a trouble maker whose own clumsiness has the potential to create ill feelings both ways.

  3. They keep building illegal settlements in Gaza…

Don’t you think only a fool would express strongly worded opinions on the subject he/she so clearly has no knowledge of?

  4. Well Shelmazi, you’re probably going to tell me that Jewish settlers where in Palestine before the Palestinians. The UN, which is a joke organization, even condemned the Israeli government for building more settlements.

Israel keeps building settlements in the “occupied” West Bank and the United States have condemned that as an obstacle to peace efforts.

  5. So Brutal Truth, Ronan was basically joking around. That’s terrible. Ronan now looks like a bad guy.

I feel the doctor owes him an apology but you know Ronan will never get one. The thing is, people believe anything the press says. All the newspapers automatically branded Ronan a racist and if you read all the posts under the articles at the major newspapers, every one seems to hate him.

Of course you have the Anti-semites who will side with him no matter what.

  6. You know being Israeli is different than being a Jew, right? Being Israeli is being a citizen of a nation, to be a Jew means you have to be a member of a religion and/or be born to Jewish parents (since being Jewish, depending on to whom you speak, is an ethnic categorization–some people would equate it to being Latino. Latino is not a word that places a person as being from a specific country, it (Latino) describes the ethnicity of a person.) Not all Jews agree with Israeli domestic and/or foreign policy. And by the way that little bit about Gaza and Israeli actions therein is irrelevant to the Ronan Tynan situation.

  7. Yes, I do know that being Jewish is different than being an Israeli. If I didn’t, I would of said I had a problem with Jewish people.

I do know that a lot of Jews don’t agree with Israeli policy and I do know that a lot of people in Israel get upset with Jewish people in America because some of them think the Jews in America are too liberal.

I also know that some people in Israel are are having a hard time with Obama as well.

  8. The problem his ilk (especially a lot of his Irish-American brethern) is that they CHOOSE not to differentiate American-Jews with Israeli-Jews. Thus they see the Israeli-Palestianian situation as a good excuse to direct ire towards American Jews. A lot of it is a good excuse to perpetuate a lot of their own dirty history with predudice (See Pat Buchanan and Father Coughlin). I know plenty in New England who hate Jews like they hate the Yankees.

  9. I didn’t know that New England has people that don’t like the Jews. I have to agree with your statement Joe. A lot of people will use the Israeli-Palestinian conflict as a reason to hate American Jews.
