Robinson Cano should be in the Home Run Contest

July 7th, 2010 Sean S. Posted in Robinson Cano No Comments »

Yes, the Yankees don’t want him to be in the contest but if he is in the contest, he has a great chance to win because of his magnificent, easy left-handed stroke. Kevin Long doesn’t want him to participate but think of the exposure Cano would get at being a home run hero. He’d become even more popular than just in the New York market. They should “showcase” him.

The home run contest is good viewing to see who is on steroids. Usually, you see these big guys, huffing and puffing and just being able to finish the contest. With Cano, who I believe is “not” on steroids, he won’t lose his stamina and would most likely find it easy to win the contest. He has a nice swing that could help him launch a few rockets.

“I would prefer that he’s not involved in it, but that’s not my decision,” hitting coach Kevin Long said. “It’s just an exhausting process. It takes a lot out of you. It’s taxing. You see guys come back after the home run hitting contest and it affects their swing.”

It seems that Cano is more of a line drive type of hitter so I don’t see it affecting his swing. Come on Yankees, let him go!

I’m still in awe of Yankees’ Robinson Cano

June 28th, 2010 Sean S. Posted in Robinson Cano 1 Comment »

Seriously, I don’t think I’ve seen a batter this good since Don Mattingly in his prime. Cano hits every thing thrown at him. I’m just amazed at how well of a hitter he’s become. He’s the best hitter in the league and he’s a better hitter than Alex Rodriguez. I don’t think any one would argue that.

I honestly think that pitchers fear Robinson Cano more than Alex Rodriguez or any batter in the league. Why wouldn’t they? He’ll most likely smash a single up the middle or crush a game winning home run. I’ve never had confidence in a player like I have in Cano. When he gets up and there’s a runner on base, I know that run is coming in. Numbers prove this point. He has a .363 batting average and 38 RBI with men in scoring position. Thanks to Baseball Reference

Cano is the only batter in my mind that would have a chance at breaking Joe Dimaggio’s 56 game hitting streak. If you had to choose a player on the Yankees to do it, it would be him because he has the swing to do it.

What I hope for is that Cano will be this good for a long time. I don’t want it to be just a career year. I’d like to see him dominate like this, year in and year out. His past few years were very good. I want to see him hit like he’s hitting this year, for the rest of life. What he’s doing now is Hall of Fame caliber. If he can hit like this for the next six or seven years, I would expect the Hall to come calling after he retires.

My father keeps saying, “Don’t you know, Cano” and “Canew, Cano.” My father is not a simple man but he keeps his life simple. Something I should do.

Yankees’ Robinson Cano has finally arrived

All the times in the past when scouts would say that “he has a chance to lead the league in hitting some day.” Well guess what? That some day is here. It’s his time. His time is now. Here we are. He’s finally developed into the player that every one hoped he turn into. He’s now a star. The best thing about Cano is that he is home grown.

What an amazing journey he’s had too. He started for the GCL Yankees in 2001 at the age of 18. He went from GCL, to Staten Island, to A ball, to Trenton and to the triple A club which was Columbus at the time. He played in each league but didn’t necessarily dominate.

Now, he’s the total hitter. You can’t even get a pitch by him if you’re the pitcher because he’s going to hit it. Out of all the Yankees on the team right now, I want him up in a crucial situation. You know that teams have fear in the idea of Cano up with the bases loaded.

He leads the league in hits with 99, batting average at .367 and total bases with 164. To have a lead over Ichiro in hits(95) says something especially since Ichiro gets up at bat so much. Cano is two behind the leader in doubles with 21, 10th in home runs, seventh in RBI with 49 and only struck out 33 times.

I’d really like to see Cano bat third in the order but it seems that Mark Teixeira is getting his groove back. It would of been helpful when the Yankees weren’t scoring runs and Cano was the only player getting hits.

Yes, Robinson Cano is here and he’s here in a big way.

Cano and Hughes are who we THOUGHT they were!

June 3rd, 2010 Sean S. Posted in Phil Hughes, Robinson Cano 8 Comments »

Robinson Cano and Phil Hughes are now the players who the Yankee scouts thought they would turn into. Both of them have arrived. Yankee fans? Here they are.

Not only are they the players the Yankees thought they would be but they just might be the best players on the Yankees. Not only on the Yankees, but in the whole league. Imagine that? The best pitcher and best hitter on the New York Yankees?

The stats speak for themselves. Robinson Cano. Phil Hughes.

Robinson Cano leads the the major leagues in batting average at .373. He’s sixth in home runs in the AL with 12. Third in RBI with 42. He leads the major leagues in hits with 78. Doesn’t seem that every time up that he’s going to get a hit? Yankee fans? Robinson Cano’s time has come. He is here. Here he is.

He gives great protection to A-Rod in the lineup. Pitchers now have to pitch to A-Rod more than ever because if they walk him, they have to face Robinson Cano with runners on base. A scary proposition.

When you compare pitching, you can’t compare both because National League pitchers get to face the pitcher.

In the American League, Phil Hughes’ ERA is fourth at 2.54. He is second in wins with seven to David Price’s eight but Hughes only has one loss. He averages just about a strike out an inning with 64.

The great thing about Phil Hughes is that no one gets on base against him. If you look at the top 10 pitchers in ERA in the American league that pitched at least 10 games, Phil Hughes has only allowed 47 hits. The other pitchers have given up over 50.

The best thing about Robinson Cano and Phil Hughes is that the Yankees “developed” them. They are from the farm. The Yankees organization along with Brian Cashman and the scouting directors have to be proud of what they’ve done.

There was also a time where I called Phil Hughes the “franchise blogger” because he had a blog and he wasn’t pitching well. Boy, did he ever shut me up. He’s turned into one of my favorite players.

Like Dennis Green would say… They are who we THOUGHT they were!

Robinson Cano is terrifying the league

April 25th, 2010 Sean S. Posted in Robinson Cano No Comments »

Hello Yankee fans. Can I point to any evidence that Robinson Cano is striking fear towards opposing pitchers?

How does eight multi-hit games sound? How about being third in the league in hits? Fourth in home runs, fifth in RBI fifth in batting average, seventh in OPS? How about being second in the league in runs scored. Second in the league in runs scored? Hmmm. The object of the game of baseball is to score runs. He has scored 15 runs.

If you score runs, you win games. It’s that simple Yankee fans.

Robinson Cano has it nailed. He is the answer for today. He is the key, the “ticket” if you will. If you want accountability, Cano conducts himself in a responsible manner. He is the best way out. The New York Yankees are the best way out. They are doing the best they can to win, each and every day. It’s about effort. It’s about accomplishment. It’s about aspiration. The Yankees are the rule of law.

What Cano is doing is brilliant. He plays the game quietly. He’s quiet and uses a big stick. He let’s his game do the talking. Like LL Cool J. once said… He strikes FEAR with the look of his face.

Some one once said that Robinson Cano has the talent to win the batting title. Well, this year, just might be the year. Yankee fans? Sit back and enjoy the ride.

Robinson Cano will bat fifth in Yankees’ order

March 14th, 2010 Sean S. Posted in Robinson Cano No Comments »

According to Anthony DiComo / MLB.com, Robinson Cano is moving up in this world. Fifth to be exact. He’s certainly earned it with the way he’s been hitting as a veteran for the New York Yankees the past five years.

He hits lefties pretty well but it’s with men on second and third you have to worrry about.  He hit .207 with men on second and third last year. When you’re in the fifth hole, men will be on base a lot especially with men on second and third.

This is what you develop players for, to make that certain some one you want. The Yankees always wanted him to bat high in the order and now they have their chance to see if he can do it. Robinson Cano will play a key part in the Yankees’ success this year.

Sergio Mitre Looked Ok To Me As The Yankees Won

July 21st, 2009 Sean S. Posted in 2009 Reg Season, Robinson Cano 2 Comments »

The New York Yankees beat the Baltimore Orioles by a score of 6-4. Starting for the Yankees was Sergio Mitre and he got the win. Mariano Rivera got the save.

So this was the first time Mitre has started in the majors in a wile, huh? He looked ok even though he gave up eight hits and three earned runs in just over five innings. When the Orioles scored first I was like, oh no, he’s going to get rocked. He held his ground pretty well and has a pretty hard sinker.

Robinson Cano made some great defensive plays tonight. I love his back hand flip. It’s looks pretty awesome and I love when he throws across his body to get the guy out at first. He makes it seem so effort less. How about that bomb he hit? That was nice.

It blows my mind a little the Yankees are now in first place because I’m used to them being in second place all year. The Red Sox are really blowing it.

That Markakis guy is a pretty good hitter. He got three hits.

It’s too bad the Yankees don’t have any one great hitting behind A-Rod. It would make life much easier for him. Posada, who is a catcher, is not my idea of protection.

This Yankee bull pen might be the best I’ve seen in a wile. Aceves, Coke, Hughes and Rivera. That’s a pretty formidable foursome.

The Yankees were aggressive on the base pads, made some great defensive plays and had great pitching. A great formula to win.

Player of the Game: Robinson Cano. He did it at the plate and in the field.

My Scouting Report on Robinson Cano’s Hitting

May 4th, 2009 Sean S. Posted in Robinson Cano 12 Comments »

In the 2008 season and even in spring training this year, Robinson Cano was more even with the pitcher but now he has opened up with his front foot. Last year, he was driving towards home plate that he was almost blocking himself off. Now he’s opened up and his stride is smooth and it’s right back at the pitcher.

When you’re pitching, you would hope that the batter comes towards home plate with his foot but Robinson Cano is not doing that. Kevin Long, the Yankee hitting coach, worked with Cano on picking up his front foot and putting it right back towards the pitcher and this is why he’s not blocking himself off.

When you’re opened up, it makes it easier to get to the inside pitch and Robbie knows he can handle the ball away. Some players can’t get to the outside pitch when they are opened up but Robbie can. This makes it almost impossible to get him out.

Not only that but he has one of the best left-handed swings in the game with tremendously quick hands.

This season he is leading the Yankees in batting average at .363. third in on base percentage at .394, second in runs scored with 20, leads the team in total bases with 58, third with 17 RBI, leads the team in at bats but struck out the ninth least with nine, is third with a .569 slugging percentage and is second with an OPS of .963.

Robinson Cano had a hit in all but one game this season prior to Saturday and is off to the best start of his baseball career. When you think about the fact that he has been a slow starter and a strong finisher in his career, Robinson Cano could be looking at a MVP type of year.

Just think, he’s only 26-years-old and isn’t going anywhere fast since the Yankees own him and have all the money in the world to keep him.

It feels good knowing we have a great second baseman who can hit and be with us for a long time.
