I’m Glad The Yanks Beat The Jays – Now Boston

August 5th, 2009 Sean S. Posted in 2009 Reg Season, sergio mitre 1 Comment »

The New York Yankees beat the Toronto Blue Jays by a score of 8-4. Sergio Mitre started but got a no decision. Alfredo Aceves got the win.

While watching the Yankees game, I was already thinking ahead to the Red Sox series. I was feeling pretty good that Mitre wouldn’t face them.

The Yankees have the highest payroll in baseball and Mitre is their 5th starter? Couldn’t we have Kei Igawa do the same thing Mitre does? I have to admit, tonight was a better than usual “Mitre” outing. He still couldn’t make it through five innings.

Aceves put out the fire in the 5th.

Vernon Wells went to the bank on Johnny Damon in the top of the sixth..

Out of all the players to tie the game in the seventh inning, it was Nick Swisher.

Jeter was over powered in the same inning. I was amazed by it for some reason.

Matsui shouldn’t of been thrown out at home plate in the seventh inning. For some reason, Barajas was way in front of home plate and he couldn’t handle the ball. Bad play by him.

The Blue Jays bull pen stinks.

The magic inning for the Yankees seems to be the seventh inning.

The Yankees are just too good for the Blue Jays. The Blue Jays have no chance at the division this year or the wild card for that matter.

I really like watching Phil Hughes pitch. I also like watching Melky catch the ball in the outfield. What can I say? I like watching Yankee farm hands.

I can’t believe this. I forgot to start Johnny Damon two days in a row in fantasy baseball. Things like this piss me off.

I’m glad Joe didn’t bring in Mariano in the 9th when it became a save situation because the Yankees will need him for Boston.

Bottom Line: Yankees took care of the Blue Jays and didn’t look towards the Boston series. That was great professionalism by them.

Player of the Game: Johnny Damon. He had some big hits. I thought his hits were bigger than Swisher’s.

I Did Not Like The Seventh Inning As Yankees Lose

July 31st, 2009 Sean S. Posted in 2009 Reg Season, sergio mitre 3 Comments »

The New York Yankees lost to the Chicago White Sox by a score of 10-5. Sergio Mitre started but got a no decision. David Robertson got the loss.

What poor baseball fundamentals the starting pitcher for the White Sox had. He should of beat Jeter to the bag for the out in the first inning.

I was wondering if Mitre could hold the White Sox down after the Yankees scored early. Then I realized he’s a journey man pitcher. When Mitre fell in the second inning, it was a Pettitte replay from yesterday. Most of Mitre’s pitchers were up so he had no chance against the White Sox.

It must be really boring being a starting pitcher on a baseball team because you have to sit and watch for four games.

Why did Robinson Cano go to first base after Beckham hit a sacrifice fly to center in the second?  Some might of thought it was a bad throw by Melky but Cano wasn’t there for him to throw it to.

Who’d think Hinske would tie the game up in the fourth inning with a two run home run?

This game is really going to drain the Yankee bull pen for the next couple of days.

That umpire was all over the place tonight. There was no consistency.

I’m glad Jeter stole a base because I have him on roto fantasy baseball.

Melky has good range in the outfield.

I don’t believe that once you are in the major leagues that you will grow and get stronger. The only way that happens is if you take steroids. I’m pretty sure you stop growing at the age of 19.

Johnny Damon really didn’t make a great catch in the bottom of the seventh inning. He was his normal self in the outfield. He ran in first before he backed up to catch it. Aceves was hit hard in the seventh inning and it was a matter of time before they scored on him. I have to admit, that was a nice double steal by the White Sox that scored another run.

The White Sox were very aggressive in the seventh inning. The play were Tex deflected the ball but Getz scored? That was aggressive. They scored four runs and increased the lead to 10.

Did you see A-Rod get thrown out at second trying to stretch his base hit into a double in the ninth inning? Maybe if he was running hard the whole time instead of watching the ball he would of made it. He shouldn’t of tried anyway down by five runs.

The best news for us is that we have our big three pitchers starting the next three games but in two of those games the Yankees will facing studs Buehrle and Halladay.

The bottom line: Sergio Mitre is a journeyman pitcher so you shouldn’t of expected much from him. The Yankees did however fall apart in the seventh inning. If the Yankees had a decent starting pitcher as their fifth starter, then maybe the Yankees wouldn’t of had to stretch their bull pen tonight.

I Like The Way The Yankees Looked Beating The A’s

July 26th, 2009 Sean S. Posted in 2009 Reg Season, Derek Jeter, sergio mitre 1 Comment »

The New York Yankees beat the Oakland Athletics by a score of 7-5. Starting for the Yankees was Sergio Mitre and he got a no decision. Phil Coke got the win.

Before the game started, I wondered how Tex was going to perform without A-Rod protecting him since A-Rod had the day off. He didn’t do too bad. He went 2-for-5 with a RBI.

In the first inning, I don’t think Cano had a chance to get the ball that was hit to him that allowed a run to score. It looked like it was a tough hop.

It always seems that Matsui gets the big base hit when the Yankees need it.

That was a nice shot Cano had in the first inning that cleared the bases. Too bad he had to get thrown out at third base trying to stretch it to a triple.

Sergio Mitre’s second start of the year for the Yankees was surprisingly effective for a journeyman. I don’t see him being effective much longer or pitching the rest of the year like he’s been. It seems the Yankees are just getting by with him starting.

After Adam Kennedy hit the ball to Derek Jeter in the fourth inning for the start of the double play, I thought Cano did another great job of throwing the ball to first base. I said it yesterday what an awesome throw Cano has. He throws across his body and it’s so cool to watch.

I thought it was a smart move by Joe Girardi to take out Mitre in the bottom of the sixth inning after Suzuki singled with no outs. I had a feeling that Mitre was going to have more runners on base and make a mess. Joe saw it too and decided it was enough.

Then Phil Coke gives up a two run home run. I thought if anyone was going to blow the lead, it would of been Mitre.

The things that come out of Michael Kay’s mouth some times. I couldn’t believe he was telling Paul O’Neil that O’Neil wasn’t that good of a player in Cincinnati and that he was a better player as a Yankees. I doubt O’Neil felt insulted because he deals with Kay every day.

Derek Jeter keeps piling up those hits. I don’t think Jeter made a bad play at first when he got picked off. The pitcher just made a great pick off move.

The A’s have weak arms in the outfield. Every time a Yankee comes around third base, you know the Yankees are going to score because the A’s outfielders have such bad throwing arms.

I thought the game was over once Phil Hughes came in and pitched a great seventh inning. Phil was hitting 96 on the radar gun. He looked a little shaky in the eighth inning. I thought Phil Hughes was the better option to continue the inning after he had men on second and third instead of bringing Brian Bruney in. I thought Joe Girardi lost his mind when he brought Brian in.

To my surprise, Bruney struck the batter out and then Joe brought in Mo who’s not good with inheriting base runners. Mo got out of it. I feel Joe lucked out today with those moves. That won’t work every time.

After Hughes didn’t have the best inning in the eighth, I was hoping that Mo wasn’t going to have a bad outing today because of the law of averages. You can’t be perfect every game. Mo was though.

Player of the Game: Derek Jeter. He drove in the Yankees’ go ahead run.
