That’s what my brother told me over email about the Yankee/Red Sox games this weekend.
That’s a pretty good saying. My brother and I go way back when it comes to the Yankees. I don’t know how my father did it but he installed Yankeedom into both of us. If only teachers could get that same power and install doing good school work into their students, the same way my father used on us to be Yankee fans, we would have a bunch of geniuses in this country.
It could of been the power of persuasion. Since I was young, my father constantly preached about the Yankees and always made it seem like the Red Sox were our enemy. Almost like they were another country that hated us.
He only did that for baseball. He never brought up the other sports teams in our area like he did the Yankees. That’s why my brother and I have different favorite sports teams. I like the Yankees, Cowboys, Devils and Nets. My brother likes the Yankees, Broncos, Rangers and Knicks.
I actually feel bad rooting against the Giants because they are every thing New Jersey is about, blue collar, tough fighting, good willed people. I tried to like the Giants but I just couldn’t do it. My father loves the Giants but he never drilled them into my head over and over again.
Here’s my problem in the Yankee/Red Sox rivalry. I have a really good friend that is a Red Sox fan. Stinks to be me, huh? I try down play the rivalry because I don’t want to ruin our friendship but he’s too much into Red Sox fandom. He’s not the biggest Red Sox homer I’ve ever met but his feelings seem to get hurt when the Yankees beat the Red Sox. Make no mistake about it though, the biggest homers are the dorks from Surviving Grady.
My other good friend doesn’t even like sports. Imagine being in the car with him, my red sox buddy and myself? He’s in the same position my mother is in. When RSB(red sox buddy) and I talk, he feels left out so he’ll start making up stuff. He’ll say something like, “Remember when Muhammed Ali hit a home run in the fourth quarter to beat the Bulls? That was amazing!”
I have a gay friend that loves the Yankees. The reason why I’m telling you he is gay is because you’ll be hearing more from him in the future, from this blog believe it or not. I always knew he was gay after he told me but when I heard he likes the Yankees I was like, “You like the Yankees?” I didn’t know gay men liked sports but that’s because I was stereotyping him.
It should be a fun series no matter how it turns out and Yankee/Red Sox games are always fun to watch. Here is my prediction. The Yankees will take two out of three.
