Yankees beat the Marlins and Phil looked great

March 29th, 2008 Sean S. Posted in 2008 Pre-Season Games 2 Comments »

First, imagine a blog by a “Yankees Official” beat writer? One who writes for MLB.com and the Yankees Official website? That’s Bryan Hoch who has his own blog and you can find him here… http://bombersbeat.mlblogs.com/ Imagine that though? All the info on the Yankees you are going to find on his blog?

The Yankees won 4-2 after scoring 3 runs in the 9th inning because of an inside the park home run by Chad Moeller scoring Gregory Porter and Cody Ransom. Phil Hughes looked great especially after a so so first inning. In 5 innings he gave up 1 earned run on 3 hits. He was hitting 94 on the radar gun. All I know is that Phil Hughes better pitch well this year because I drafted him in all of my fantasy leagues. lol. The Yankees started with their, “A” lineup in and scored only 1 run until the 9th but Melky Cabrera looked great and was the hitting star for the Yankees going 2 for 3 with 1 run and 1 rbi. Joba Chamberlain came in the 8th inning with 1 out and got the final two outs on 6 pitches lowering his spring era to under 5. Ross Ohlendorf came in and shut the door on the preseason. This was it. The last tune up. Let’s bring on the regular season!

Yankees lose to the Marlins 5-3 3/28/08

Mike Jacobs of the Florida Marlins went deep off of Mike Mussina twice, once in the 3rd inning and once in the 6th inning as the Florida Marlins beat the New York Yankees 5-3. A-Rod hit an A-Bomb in the 5th inning and continues to have a great spring with a 2 for 3 with 1 run and 2 rbi’s performance. Mike Mussina didn’t fare too well giving up 5 earned runs in 5 innings. It’s going to be a long year if Mussina can’t get his act together.

Joe Girardi is excited to play team that fired him

March 28th, 2008 Sean S. Posted in 2008 Pre-Season Games No Comments »

Joe Girardi and his New York Yankees will face the team that fired him tonight, the Florida Marlins. Jeffrey Loria, the owner of the Marlins, fired Joe Girardi after Joe had them in the wild card race for the last month of the season and after being named manager of the year. It seems the reason why Girardi got fired was the ego of the owner, Loria. Loria was yelling at an umpire during a game about a missed pitch and Girardi took offense to that and told his boss to be quiet and his boss felt insulted so this is probably why Joe was fired. I’m sure Joe Girardi would like his club to put a pounding on the Marlins so it should make for an interesting game. The Yankees will play their 28th game of spring training when they take on the Florida Marlins at Dolphin Stadium in Miami, Fla, 7:10 p.m. Eastern Time. Starting for the New York Yankees is right-hander Mike Mussina who is looking to sharpen up for the regular season and he will face left-hander Andrew Miller of the Florida Marlins.

Yankee lose to the Pirates 5-2

Kei Igawa went 3.1 innings and looked shaking giving up 4 earned runs on 5 hits. That doesn’t bode well for making a roster spot in the bull pen. Derek Jeter hit his first home run of the spring but it wasn’t enough as the Yankees lose to the Pittsburgh Pirates 5-2.

Yankees lose to Phillies 4-0

Chien-Ming Wang gave up all of his 4 runs in the second inning but the rest of the Yankees bull pen gave up no runs. The Yankees couldn’t get on the board and were blanked by Brett Myers and Carpenter. Robinson Cano continues to be hot by going 2 for 4. I wish he would save some of this hitting for the regular season.

Ian Kennedy was charged with four runs but none were earned. Darrel Rasner was charged with the blown save. The good news of the day was Robinson Cano who went 3 for 4 with 1 run scored and 2 rbi’s raising his spring average to .464. Jose Molina was the other hitting star for the Yankees going 3 for 4 with 1 run and 1 rbi. The Yankees lose to the Indians 7-5
