Nick Swisher deserved final All-Star spot over Youkilis

July 8th, 2010 Sean S. Posted in nick swisher 2 Comments »

Swisher, the Yankees’ right-fielder and social-media titan, held off Kevin Youkilis of the rival Red Sox in the closest race in the nine-year history of the Final Vote to claim the 34th and final spot on the All-Star roster with a final tally of 9.8 million votes. Yankees official site

Now, the question is, did Swisher “deserve” to win the final spot over Youkilis? I say yes. First let’s look at some facts… Swisher has a .298 average to go along with 14 homers, 48 RBIs and 52 runs. Youkilis has a .292 average with 17 home runs, 55 RBIs and 66 runs.

Swisher has a higher average but not by much. Youkilis has more RBI and home runs and a lot more runs. I can see you making a case for Youkilis over Swisher. However, here’s why I feel Swisher deserved it…

This is the All “STAR” game and Swisher is a star. Youkilis is quiet and not much is known about his personality. This isn’t about personality however. Swisher had some big time clutch hits this year and brings a spark to the Yankees. Swisher is such a star that he even had a campaign run for himself to get himself voted in. Are you going to tell me that’s not a star? That’s some one who “wants” to be in the spot light and wants to play the game in front of millions watching on tv. He’s a celebrity and baseball celebrities play all star games, not quiet types.

Nick Swisher, congrats on your selection. You deserve it.

Nick Swisher’s career numbers against Joe Saunders

October 24th, 2009 Sean S. Posted in nick swisher No Comments »

The New York Yankees play the Los Angeles Angels tonight, maybe.

Nick Swisher has 25 career plate appearances against Joe Saunders. He’s batting .238 with a .360 OBP and a .741 OPS. He has a .381 SLG.

He has 21 official at bats against Joe Saunders. He has five hits, six RBI, four walks and three strike outs.

In 2009 against Joe Saunders he has six plate appearances and a .167 batting average with one hit and 2 RBI.

In the last playoff game against Joe Saunders in 2009, Nick Swisher walked, grounded out, singled to left and scored a run. So he went 2-for-3 against Saunders.

It’s what have you done for me lately against your opponents and Joe can use that last stat as a good reason to use Swisher.
