Joba Chamberlain needs to be in the Mop Up role

July 11th, 2010 Sean S. Posted in Joba 6 Comments »

First, I’m still disgusted about last night’s blown save by Joba. I don’t know how many times he let the lead slip away this year but it seems like a lot. There’s not many more words I can put it in. I’m really disgusted. What to do about Joba? I know exactly what you do with him…

You know how the Yankees are winning a game by nine runs or losing a game by nine runs and it’s the ninth inning? THAT’S when you bring Joba in the game. To “mop” up. If I’m the bench coach, I look to Joe Girardi and say, “Hey Joe, we’re getting killed here. Time to bring in Joba.” or… “Hey Joe, we’re destroying this team. They’ll never catch up. Time to bring in Joba.”

I can’t even call him “Joba the Sloba” any more because he’s been so bad that it’s beyond ridiculous. Maybe I should call him, “The Ridiculous One” or something. All I know is that this nonsense has to stop. He needs to be shipped to Scranton or maybe even traded to the National league where he would face the pitcher every once in a while. All I know is that “Joba” is not working. The Joba is broken and can’t be fixed. The Joba is broken and can’t get up…

Joba is second in the AL in holds – Do you believe it?

July 5th, 2010 Sean S. Posted in 2010 Regular Season, Joba No Comments »

Here’s something I find interesting. Joba Chamberlain is second in the American league in holds with 17. There are two guys ahead of him tied with 18 and they are Kevin Jaspen of the Angels and Daniel Bard of the Red Sox.

Out of every one in the top 10, eight pitchers don’t have an ERA over 3.52. Believe it or not, Joba only has two blown saves this year. Of course the reason for this is Mariano. When there is a save situation, Mariano is going to get the call, not Joba.

Still, I can’t figure out for the life of me how Joba has 17 holds with an ERA of 5.24. That’s his ERA. It’s definitely not good. Every time I see Joba pitch, he’s either giving up big hits or giving up the lead. It’s possible that the leads he blew had such an effect on me that I made it bigger than what it was and started thinking he blew leads on a regular basis.

The thing about Joba is that he should be better than this. He doesn’t have to worry about throwing a slider that much because he’s a reliever. He can come in and throw two pitches and dominate but he doesn’t dominate. If you look at his stats, his hits per/9 are at it’s worst, his home run per k/9 is at it’s second worst, his walks per k/9 are at it’s worst, his whip is at it’s worst and his k/9 is at it’s worst it’s ever been.

If there was a solution to this, I’m sure the Yankee staff would know and work with him on it but whatever Joba is doing, it’s “not” working.

Joba Chamberlain has found his mo “Joe”

April 8th, 2010 Sean S. Posted in Joba No Comments »

Yankee fans, if you were watching the New York Yankees game Tuesday night, you saw some thing. I’m going to explain to you what you saw. You saw Joba Chamberlain turn back the clock.

On Tuesday night, like Superman in a phone booth, Joba dialed it up to 96 mph. Wow. That’s fast. It’s safe to say that Joba Chamberlain has found his mojo. Let me explain..

Joba Chamberlain gave the opposition nothing. He was cold, he was ruthless, he was relentless and he was knocking the Red Sox down with nasty sliders and an unforgiven fastball. He would not forgive the Red Sox for getting up at bat against him. Joba played “his” game which is domination. Then to show that he was better than you, after he made you look foolish, he did the fist pump in your face and there was nothing you were able to do about it.

Joba makes the game of baseball seem so easy. He pitches, you swing and miss. That’s your destiny against him. To fail. To be unsuccessful and to feel intimidated when you face the fist pumping monster. He is some one you face that makes you feel bad about yourself. Your feelings get hurt when you have to face Joba.

When you’re a Yankee, you must realize that respect, dignity and honor are key components to character. It’s all about principle. Joba has all of that. He knows the responsibilities of being a Yankee. A “New York” Yankee. He has fun and it rubs off on the rest of the team. Yankee fans? Follow the Joba domination train this season and you will have the joy of your life.

Yankee fans, we know what’s at stake here. Another world series championship. Yes, the newcomers like Nick Johnson and Curtis Granderson are contributing but so is the “new again” Joba Chamberlain.

Joba did his “joba” tonight

March 29th, 2010 Sean S. Posted in Joba No Comments »

Ok, so the game wasn’t on tv but I was able to look at the box score for the New York Yankees Baltimore Orioles game. It looks to me like Joba Chamberlain? Got the job done. He got the JOB DONE! This is how the Joba will be used during the season, for situations like this. He came in, pitched .2 of an inning, probably gave a fist pump and then left the scene of the crime.

I bet Joba Chamberlain reached 96 mph on his fastballs and dropped a couple of knee buckling curves. We’re better off calling him… Justin Louis Heeeeeeeth. Or is it, “Mr.” Justin Louis Heeeeeeth?? Actually, his real name is Justin Louis Heath.

I’m excited for the season. Just think about the first game. C.C. Sabathia will give us seven strong. Joba will pitch the eighth and then Mariano God Rivera will pitch the ninth. OHHH I just love it. Please, PLEASE let this happen against Boston. Wait, we don’t need to beg. These are the New York Yankees we are talking about. Always expect a great outcome.

Joba going back to the bull pen is an idea I like – for now

February 19th, 2010 Sean S. Posted in Joba 2 Comments »

Joba Chamberlain picture AP

Dave Eiland, the New York Yankees’ pitching coach said “I think we’ve all seen the difference in him when he starts and relieves.”

Joba is better when coming out of the bull pen than when he starts.  I think we all know that. Even though he is better coming out of the pen, he could still be a useful starter. I’ve seen Joba try to save his best stuff but not giving every pitch his all like he does when he relieves. He throws 98 as a reliever and in the low 90′s as a starter.

The problem is that you make more money when you’re a great starting pitcher compared to a great reliever so I can see why Joba would want to start.

I believe you have to get the maximum effort from a player and if Joba is going to give more effort as a reliever, on every pitch, then make him a reliever again.

I’ve been flip flopping on what I believe Joba Chamberlain should be. Now, just put him in the pen and let him dominate and give his best stuff.

Yankee fans want Hughes to start over Joba? Really?

February 12th, 2010 Sean S. Posted in Joba, Phil Hughes No Comments »

I was reading the poll at the NY Daily News this morning and the question was.. Where should Phil Hughes pitch?

The article was comparing Phil Hughes and Joba Chamberlain saying that they will be competing for the fifth spot. Here’s a picture of the poll…

——————————————–
I’m surprised by this because last year, if you said that Joba Chamberlain should be in the bull pen and not start, it was like you were insulting some one’s family member. It looks as though a big majority of New York Daily News readers thing Hughes should start and Joba should be relegated to the bull pen.

I even voted for Hughes to be in the bull pen. I’m wondering what changed a lot of fans’ minds? Last year was Joba’s first year as a full time starter. He started 31 games. The year before he started 12. Some pitcher don’t become good until much later than 23 years old which is how old Joba is. CC Sabathia didn’t start dominating until he was 25, 26 years old.

I was always a person who thought Joba should be in the bull pen. My thinking now is, if you’re going to give some one a chance to start, give them a chance. Don’t keep changing things with players by putting them in the bull pen then back to starting again and doing this over and over.

I’m Surprised Joba Pitched well because he’s not Good

September 26th, 2009 Sean S. Posted in Joba No Comments »

Joba is a terrible pitcher and a bad baseball player.

That’s why I’m shocked he pitched well yesterday. Of all teams for this bad pitcher to pitch well against, it was the Boston Red Sox. That’s even more shocking. He shouldn’t be pitching good or even well because he is not a good pitcher. He’s a terrible pitcher.

He pitched 152.2 innings this year and has given up 72 walks. Disgusting. That’s not a good pitcher, that’s a bad pitcher.

His opponents batting average against him is .359. He’s given up 21 home runs. That’s not a good pitcher, that’s a bad pitcher.

Joba pitched in 30 games this year for the New York Yankees. He pitched 152.2 innings. If you’re good at math, that’s 5.07 innings per start. That’s not a good pitcher, that’s a bad pitcher.

He’s 24 years old and he’s not going to get better. People were always under the assumption that if you’re 25 and younger you still have room to improve. That’s a farce. That was during the steroid era when every one was taking steroids. Of course you’re going to improve because you’re either going to take steroids or just started taking steroids.

Take the steroids out and you’re an ordinary pitcher. I wouldn’t doubt that Joba took steroids. He has the steroid face and body. I wouldn’t put it past him either since he was caught drinking and driving. It’s in his character to take steroids.

I have no proof so I digress. I do know that he’s not a good baseball player and if the Yankees go into the post season with him starting, we are in trouble.

Disgraceful Player of the Game: Joba Chamberlain

September 20th, 2009 Sean S. Posted in Disgraceful Player, Joba 1 Comment »

The New York Yankees lost to the Seattle Mariners by a score of 7-1.

Disgraceful Player of the Game: Joba Chamberlain

I have to give honorable mention to Jorge Posada for catching Joba Chamberlain’s mess. I hope Jorge doesn’t catch much in the playoffs. You need great defensive catchers in the playoffs and Jorge is not one.

How much longer do we have to wait until Joba becomes a good pitcher? He sucks. Every time he pitches, the Yankees are always down runs early.

Alfredo Aceves can give a better start than this.

Joba will be useless in the post season unless he’s in the bull pen where he belongs in the first place.

Watching Joba pitch every five days is painful. He looks lost and the way he pitches is pathetic. I’m so sick and tired of all of this Joba hype when the reality of the situation is, Joba sucks.

Maybe Joba needs to start taking steroids again. That’s the only way I figure out why he’s such a terrible pitcher.

Joba, the way you pitched today against an inept lineup like the Mariners is not only a disgrace, but a nightmare.

Yankees Lose To Texas And I’m Concerned About Joba

August 25th, 2009 Sean S. Posted in 2009 Reg Season, Joba 7 Comments »

This was definitely not the type of game I expected out of Joba Chamberlain. There could be a lot of reasons for this terrible start. Maybe he’s had too much rest or maybe it’s Posada’s game calling. Sure Posada had a run scored and three RBI but he’s catching has to be questioned. The last game he caught the Yankees got bombed.

I’d like to see Molina catch Joba or maybe even have Francisco Cervelli catch him. What ever is going on with Joba, it’s not working. He’s not the star I thought he’d be. Maybe we have to wait another season? I don’t like waiting but that’s because I’m the type of fan that wants every thing now.

What I don’t want to see is the Yankees lose games and the Red Sox keep winning even though we just beat them in a series. You never know with the Red Sox. The Yankees could rest on their laurels and the next thing you know the Red Sox are two games behind.

The Yankees almost had a comeback but you can’t let a team score 10 runs on you and expect to come back every game. The Yankees lost 10-9.
